This 'species' Centaurea indurata Janka frequently grows in Transylvania in the same places as Centaurea phrygia L.  and they intergrade widely though it happens to find also 'pure' populations having constant characters. It is said to be a Central European - north Balkan taxon.

The pictures below were taken in such a 'mix' population from a ruderalized grassland north of Podeni, Cluj county on 29th of July 2006
